Walk To Fix Our Democracy

Driving along Nebraska’s roads this month, you might have spotted an 82-year-old man with an American flag, walking east and ready to have a conversation about tangible, realistic ways to make U.S. democracy work for everyone. That’s Rick Hubbard of Walking to Fix Our Democracy – and he and his team are making their way across the country, one step at a time, for the cause.

Hubbard will bring Walking to Fix Our Democracy to Lincoln on Wednesday, May 29, – and you’re invited to join in. Join Civic Nebraska, Common Cause Nebraska, and everyday Nebraskans at 2:30 p.m. at Hamann Rose Garden, 27th and C streets. That’s where we’ll meet up with Hubbard for a short leg of his journey through the Star City.

We’ll walk together to Shelter No. 1 at Antelope Park, where we’ll hear about Hubbard’s adventure so far and the planks of a small-d democratic reform platform, and learn about specific efforts in Nebraska to make democracy fairer and more representative for all.

Here’s the local route in Lincoln. It starts by walking north along 27th Street toward Capitol Parkway. Then the walk will head east on the Rock Island and Billy Wolff trails past the northern edge of the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. Then, the walk will leave the trail and walk across the grass a short distance to Shelter No. 1 in Antelope Park. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
