It is with a deep sense of loss and sorrow that we announce the passing of Cynthia Peterson, who served as president of the League of Women Voters of Lincoln-Lancaster County. Peterson passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the age of 69.
Her passing has left a huge hole in the hearts of her friends and colleagues and big shoes to fill as the leader of the Lincoln-Lancaster County LWV. Through Peterson’s leadership, the LWVLL had formed partnerships with a number of other nonprofit organizations in the community. She led the local League in advocating for such issues as public schools, women’s health care, fair housing and, of course, voting rights, to name just a few.
Peterson was always looking for ways for the League to make a difference, and she inspired our members to do the same. We will strive to uphold and continue to move her legacy forward. Peterson’s compassion for others and leadership will be missed.
The memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel on 950 Hohensee Dr. Interment will occur at a later date in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege, NE.
