LWVNE member Mary Kelly testified on February 12, 2026, in support of LB957  – Provide a cause of action against certain adults for allowing a minor to possess a handgun and create an offense of leaving a loaded firearm in a location accessible to a minor.

 “As parents we are responsible for protecting our children,” Kelly said. “When we bring a child home for the first time we put plugs on all the outlets and locks on all the outlets. This bill is a reminder that part of having a firearm in a home with children means ensuring they will not be able to access it.”
