Under the auspices of our clean water policy, the League of Women Voters of Nebraska supports LR 159 – Request the Executive Board to appoint an AltEn LLC Ethanol Plant Special Investigative and Oversight Committee.
AltEn Ethanol, located in Mead, NE, processes unwanted pesticide-coated agricultural seeds, such as corn, into ethanol. Some of the by-product is then distributed to farm fields as “soil conditioner” or left exposed at the plant where experts and researchers report dangerously high levels of neonicotinoids, a type of insecticide. AltEn is actively polluting soil and water, poisoning people and animals, and killing vital pollinators. We urge legislators to pass this resolution.-
