Before the 1st special legislative session in August ended with minor changes to tax policy and major changes to the state budget, the 108th Nebraska Legislature wrapped up its second regular session in April.
With 597 more bills introduced in 2024 to add to the 666 pieces of legislation carried over from spring 2023, Nebraska state senators had more than 1,200 pieces of legislation to consider.
“Ultimately, they passed 196 during the spring of 2024 with important changes in environmental programs, emergency response systems, school funding and much more,” said Rachel M. Gibson, action vice president for the League of Women Voters of Nebraska.
Do you know how YOUR Senator voted?
To find out, check out the LWVNE’s Senator Summary report at this link. Senators are listed alphabetically. ”In addition to seeing their votes on some of the highest profile issues, you will find what bills and legislative studies they introduced and on which committees they serve,” said Gibson, who led this second annual voter education project for the LWVNE.
If you are unsure who your senator is, you can use the Nebraska Legislature’s Find My Senator tool here.
“The information included in the LWVNE’s Senator Summary report was taken directly from the Nebraska Legislature’s website and no information has been abridged, edited or omitted,” Gibson said. “No opinion or commentary is provided.” The LWVNE is a nonpartisan organization aimed at helping educate the public without endorsing candidates or parties.
The LWVNE encourages you to review your senator’s summary and consider:
Is your legislator prioritizing the issues you care the most about?
“With half of the seats in the Unicameral on the ballot in November, including many current legislators up for reelection, now is the perfect time to determine if they are truly representing your community and prioritizing the issues you care about most,” Gibson said.
“You can always let your senator know what you would like to see them work before the next session begins in January 2025 by emailing or calling them via the contact information listed on the Senator Summary sheet or on their senator homepage,” she added.
Your senator should represent their constituents – make sure they know what is important to you.
Thank you for using your voice.
