Celina Stewart

Celina Stewart, CEO of the League of Women Voters of the United States, condemned President Trump’s call to eliminate mail-in ballots and voting machines, calling it an unconstitutional overreach and a direct attack on Americans’ freedom to vote.

She emphasized that vote-by-mail is secure, accurate and widely trusted, benefiting groups such as older adults, military members and voters with disabilities. Stewart also rejected claims about voting machines, noting that U.S. systems already meet strict security, accuracy and transparency standards. The League pledged to fight any efforts to restrict voting access, stating that democracy thrives when every eligible voter can make their voice heard, whether in person or by mail.

According to the Associated Press, “Trump pledged on his social media site that he would do away with both mail voting — which remains popular and is used by about one-third of all voters — and voting machines — some form of which are used in almost all of the country’s thousands of election jurisdictions.”
