Reproductive Rights Rally Ad

Dr. Deborah Turner, president of the national League of Women Voters and a member of the LWV of Greater Omaha, is among the speakers at an Nov. 7 event in Des Moines, Iowa, designed to turn out the vote on reproductive rights in the Nov. 8 midterm election.

Turner will speak during “Iowa: Let’s Talk Reproductive Rights,” which will be presented from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, at the Willows on Grand in Des Moines. Also among the speakers is Dianne Bystrom, director emerita of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics at Iowa State University, director of communications for the League of Women Voters of Nebraska, and a member of the LWVGO.

The event — which is free and open to the public — will feature two panels of subject matter experts on reproductive rights, including Turner; Bystrom; Sally Frank, professor of law at Drake University; author Lyz Lenz; an OB/GYN; and representatives of Planned Parenthood, the ACLU and One Iowa.

According to event organizers, the purpose of the program is to “broaden our understanding of the issue, address knowledge gaps and find pathways to productively move the needle forward by educating and inspiring the next generation of reproductive rights advocates.”
