On June 28, the Keith County News published a news release sent by the League of Women Voters of Nebraska’s communications team about its 2024-2025 mother-daughter co-presidents Claudia Stevenson, who lives in Ogallala, and Janelle Stevenson of Lincoln, who was raised in Ogallala.

The news release, written by Charlyne Berens, associate editor of the Nebraska Voter, begins: “You might think that Janelle Stevenson joined the League of Women Voters of Nebraska because she was following her mother, Claudia Stevenson’s, example. Actually, it was the other way around. About three years ago, Janelle – already a leader in the statewide organization – told her mother it was time she got involved, too. After all, Claudia’s own mother was a charter member of the League in Wes Carrollton, Ohio, so it was time to keep the family commitment going.

Now the commitment has taken a new turn. The two women are serving as co-presidents of the LWVNE from its 2024 through 2025 annual meetings held in April.”
