Join us on Monday, March 23, at the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln for The People’s Day.
Drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. (CT) to be the face of the real people impacted by policy decisions. Volunteers from civic organizations will be there to help walk with you as you talk to senators, visit their offices, and speak up for you and your community. Whether it’s 30 minutes or all day, please join us for what works for your schedule.
No matter how long or when, our legislators need to see the people in the people’s house. Let’s remind them that we are here, we are paying attention and we care.
Registration is not required, but appreciated.
As folks register and arrive throughout the day, we will update the Nebraska Legislative District map to show that Nebraskans from all corners of the state want their voices heard.

Who should go to The People’s Day?
Everyone! The purpose of the day is to help Nebraskans access their Legislature and connect with their senators so that they can share their perspectives and concerns. Children are welcome, but please note that child care will not be provided.
Do I need to register?
Registration is not necessary, but definitely appreciated. You can register here.
Does it cost?
No! We know your time and effort is valuable and simply want to help folks connect with their legislators.
Where do I go when I get to the Capitol?
Our central hub will be near in info desk on the first floor, where you can check-in, pick up materials, plan your visit and ask questions.
When do I need to be there and how long is it?
Come whenever it works best for you between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Volunteers will be available throughout the day and into the evening to help you. You are welcome to stay as short or as long as you like, but we anticipate most people will stay for 1-2 hours.
What will I do while I am there?
The purpose of The People’s Day is for you to have the opportunity to connect with your representatives about whatever is most important to you in the way you are most comfortable with. Options include:

What if I don’t have transportation?
Transportation from Omaha: If you are interested, a free shuttle will be available from Omaha. It will leave the Target parking lot at the corner of Dodge and 72nd at 10 am, arrive in Lincoln around 11 am, leave Lincoln at 1 pm and return to the Target parking lot in Omaha at 2 pm. Please let Rachel Gibson (rachel@lwvnebraska.org) know if you intend to take the shuttle so we can ensure your spot. Others are more than welcome to join but spaces will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.
The registration form asks about your interest in carpooling. Closer to the date, if you have marked you are interested in carpooling, we will connect you with others in your area who have done the same.
Finally, we are working on an option for those who cannot be physically present, but want to connect with their legislator. If you are interested in this option, please email Rachel Gibson (rachel@lwvnebraska.org) for more information.
What do I need to bring?
Yourself in a pair of comfortable walking shoes. Bags are allowed in the Capitol as are food and drink in designated areas. Please note that there will not be designated staffed space to store items, so you will carry what you bring.
What should I wear?
Comfortable shoes and either a red shirt/jacket/sweatshirt/etc. and/or something from a local shop, school, business, organization, etc. to help our senators connect us with the communities we come from.
Do I need to do anything to prepare?
No preparation is necessary, but you’ll be able to make better use of your time on March 23 with a little prep. First, confirm your district and current senator. Second, watch our short “Civics Basics” series to better understand the legislative process (1. Government Structure, 2. Nebraska Legislature, 3. Legislative Process, 4. Who Is at the Capitol, and 5. We Are Our Government). Finally, learn more about what bills are up this session.
Or you can do none of that and simply show up. We are happy to help you through the day.
I’ve never been to the Capitol or done anything like this. How will I know what to do?
This is the perfect event for you! When you arrive, you will check in with one of our volunteers who will help walk you through your action options for the day. Your day will be completely tailored to your interests and needs. Volunteers will be available throughout the Capitol to answer questions and provide guidance as needed.
