The American Medical Association, an historically conservative group, adopted new policies opposing restrictions on abortion, including new ethical guidance explicitly allowing physicians to perform the procedure in keeping with “good medical practice” even in states that ban it, according to the New York Times.
The policies adopted by the House of (AMA) Delegates include:
- Opposing criminalization for pregnancy loss resulting from medically necessary care;
- Clarification of ethical guidance regarding abortion bans;
- Expanding support for access to abortion care; and
- Preserving access to abortion training for physicians-in-training
